The City of Boise Department of Aviation is seeking a Deputy Director of Operations for the Boise Airport (BOI) to manage airport operations, security, technology, custodial and airport operations teams, creating strategies in alignment with the airport’s shared values, business initiatives, policies, and objectives.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Airport Administration, Business or Public Administration, or related field and five years progressively responsible experience in airport management, airport operations, or aviation/airline operations.

The Deputy Director of Operations:
Leads airport certification program and ensures compliance with federal, local and state regulations. Updates and maintains various operational plans in compliance with federal mandates to include the Airport Security Program, Airport Certification Manual, and Airport Emergency Plan.
Leads Airport Operations and Security, Airfield Maintenance, and Airport Technology programs. Ensures compliance with federal laws and the safe, secure operation of airport facilities. Acts as Airport Duty Manager on a rotating basis with other departmental managers as assigned.
Develops and implements long-term strategic plans to meet the goals of the airport and
Coordinates with Boise Police and Fire departments to ensure federal requirements and levels of service are being met. Manages Airport Emergency Preparedness programs in conjunction with the city's Incident Management Team and participates as an active member of team. Coordinates goals for training and exercises with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Boise Police and Fire departments, Ada City-County Emergency Management (ACCEM), airlines, and other airport stakeholders.
Manages airport technology program. Acts as a liaison to the Information Technology department.
Leads airport safety program. Coordinates with Human Resources and Risk Management departments to review all security and safety issues or incidents, and directs corrective actions as needed.
Supervisory responsibilities: Employees in this position are authorized to recommend and/or effect the full range of duties (with appropriate managerial review), including hiring, performance evaluations, transferring, promoting, assigning of significant duties, rewarding, disciplining and terminating employment; exercise independent judgment to direct others work and have the authority to take corrective action; and, utilize people skills to communicate, motivate and direct or oversee a person, group, department, or organization.
The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor's degree in Airport Administration, Business or Public Administration, or related field.
Five years progressively responsible experience in airport management, airport operations, or aviation/airline operations.
Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of airport administration; airport emergency response and safety programs; federal regulations pertaining to airport operations and management; operational requirements of airlines; effective supervision and performance management.
Ability to analyze and effectively report upon operating conditions and problems and recommend or install appropriate solutions; evaluate and interpret various federal, state and local regulations; effectively manage and supervise the performance of staff; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; and perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Masters Degree in Business Administration or related field.
Professional accreditation through the American Association of Airport Executives.
Private Pilot's license.
