Provides overall legal guidance to the Metropolitan Airports Commission. Interprets and clarifies pending or enacted laws and ordinances, and advises MAC officials of their legal implications. Represents MAC in Court of Law or before any board or agency in which legal matters are involved. Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of all legal documents, advises the Board of Commissioners regarding the legal aspects of all MAC business operations and directs the legal department staff and operations.
Graduate of an accredited college of law with a JD Degree. Licensed to practice law in any state and be a member in good standing with the state lawyer regulatory board or bar association, whichever is applicable. Must be able to become a licensed MN lawyer within one year of accepting employment.
Twelve years of progressively responsible legal experience
Served as a primary legal resource to clients in airport management, contract administration, property management or another relevant area of law
Experience working with political leadership and boards of directors, including preparing for and attending board meetings and providing strategic advice
Experience practicing in a political environment using political advocacy techniques
Considerable planning, management & people leadership skills
Demonstrable experience in building relationships across business units to achieve objectives
Strong negotiating, problem solving and oral and written communication skills
Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle to commute between job sites
Experience practicing law in the public sector
Comprehensive knowledge of the aviation industry
Background in legislative research and legislative history
Experience managing the legal function of an organization
Knowledge of federal, state and local statutes, ordinances and regulations governing the administration of airports and with Minnesota law.
