This is a professional airport operations position which exercises a high level of discretion and judgment regarding a wide variety of duties both independently and supervised for all airport operations. The position exercises considerable confidential and independent decision making in response to difficult situations involving airside, landside and terminal operations. The Airport Operations Manager provides work assignments, instructions, and evaluations through observations, reports, inspections, and discussion. The primary mission of the position is compliance with Title 14, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Part 139– Certification of Airports, and the Airport Certification Manual.
Requires graduation from a four-year college with a degree in aviation management, airport management, aeronautical science, or other related degree is required. One year of experience or internship in airport operations or administration at a public use airport, designation as an Airport Certified Employee (ACE) in Operations, and/or a private pilot certificate are preferred.

Operating both Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport and Colonel James Jabara Airport, the Wichita Airport Authority (WAA) is a governmental body created under Kansas state statutes to own and operate one or more airports. The City Council of the City of Wichita is self-appointed as the Wichita Airport Authority Board. Employees of the City of Wichita Airport Department operate, regulate, administer, and maintain the property and assets owned by the WAA. The Director of Airports, as the department head, reports to the City Manager of the City of Wichita. A thirteen member Wichita Airport Advisory Board (WAAB) is appointed the City Council. The WAAB acts only in an advisory capacity to the Airport Authority Board, City Manager and Director of Airports.
