About Sacramento County
Sacramento County was incorporated in 1850 and operates under the County Charter, where an elected five member Board of Supervisors serves as the governing body of the county, and is responsible for appointing a County Executive who oversees day to day administration. The County has an annual budget of approximately $4 billion and employs over 11,000 individuals, making it the second largest employer in the region. Organizationally, the County is comprised of 40 departments and provides traditional county-wide services (public assistance, public health, child protective services and mental health services, etc.) to all residents and certain municipal services (planning and development, Sheriff’s patrol, code enforcement, water utilities, etc.) to approximately 500,000 unincorporated area residents.
