About Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority
As the home of FedEx, Memphis International Airport (MEM) is the busiest cargo airport in the western hemisphere and the second-busiest cargo airport in the world. MEM is currently transitioning from serving as an airline transfer hub to an origin and destination passenger airport. This transition includes significant changes to the Airport's operations, and will usher in a new era for its passengers. An economic impact study by the University of Memphis demonstrated that the Airport had an annual economic impact of $23.3 billion. The study also revealed that the Airport impacts 1 in 4 jobs locally.
