As a Senior Airport Planner you will be responsible for managing the planning process for small to large projects identified for renovation and/or new development related to DFW International Airport’s terminals and facilities. Under general direction of the Planning Manager, You’ll participate in short and long-range airport facilities planning efforts and will be required to apply Airport Planning principles to analyze and strategi-cally plan components of Airport development in support of the Airport’s Strategic Growth and Business Plan. You’ll provide documentation for the administration and execution of each project assigned. You’ll also be responsible for directing and man-aging in-house planning studies and overseeing management of consultant planning studies, as well as, representing the Airport on planning related matters.
What you will be doing:
• Collaborating with project sponsor and stakeholders for potential future projects to identify the primary goals and objectives of the project, defining the specific needs, and developing potential solutions. Activities typically include assessment of exist-ing conditions, site evaluation, analysis of space and/or utility needs, development of conceptual design scenarios, definition of the scope of work, determination of ROM costs, development of potential completion schedules, and reconciliation of needs and resources. • Identifying relevant codes and standards which apply to the project including but not limited to, various Building Codes, NFPA, ADA requirements, etc. • Developing work plans, and utilizing strategic thinking to provide innovative, sustain-able solutions to Airport’s planning needs. • Analyzing Airport Board and tenant initiated projects to ensure compatibility with the Airport Master Plan, and generally accepted industry standards. • Communicating and coordinating the work of assigned planning staff and support staff, making decisions regarding the quality/quantity of space needs. • Managing multiple projects concurrently, developing priorities and negotiating solu-tions. • Oversight and management of On Call Consultant delivery orders, including but not limited to project scoping, estimating, fee negotiation, and ensures all contracted services are delivered and meet quality expectations. • Developing planning ideas and conceptual plans to address short- and long-term planning needs in compliance with DFW standards. • Leading preparation of Program/Project Definition Documents to advance projects from a planning concept into design development, adding programmatic details rel-ative to spatial characteristics, demand requirements capacity characteristics, pro-cessing efficiency and design criteria necessary for establishing a well-defined pro-ject scope of work. • Translating airport planning concepts into a well-defined project in terms of scope, schedule and cost by establishing the detailed interior and exterior physical layouts and configuration, performance criteria and design parameters needed to transition the project into design development. • Planning, preparing and communicating schedules and progress of project activi-ties and expenditures, and assisting others in establishing project schedules and milestones; developing critical path or project flow diagrams to plan, setting and evaluating progress on project tasks
What you need:
• Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Planning, Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field. • Five (5) years of professional-level experience in relevant planning activities. • Three (3) years of experience in a coordinating or lead position. • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above on a year-for- year basis. • Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license. • Ability to obtain Airport Security clearance for AOA access. • Knowledge of principles related to strategic planning, facility planning, airport plan-ning, or land use planning. • Knowledge of airport and airline procedures and processes. • Knowledge of project management methods and techniques. • Knowledge of federal, state and local ordinances, codes and regulations relating to airport planning and development. • Ability to manage outside contractors in a manner conducive to the timely and effi-cient completion of work. • Ability to develop and present oral and written reports on complex issues. • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, and to maintain harmonious internal and external working relationships. • Ability to influence outside contractors to comply with Airport Board rules, regula-tions and procedures relating to Airport construction projects. • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Micro Station, and PowerPoint are required • Familiar and proficient with Federal Aviation Administration Advisory Circulars, Or-ders, and other guidance/publications for airport planning, design, and land use, as well as other complimenting industry publications. • Thorough understanding and experience with the assessment of passenger and baggage processing, terminal ticketing and check-in facilities and support spaces, baggage systems, security screening systems, concessions placement, passenger circulation and flow patterns, airline functional spaces, and other support spaces. • Familiar and experienced with airport facility planning and design standards pub-lished by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other airport industry asso-ciations.

• LEED AP • Masters’ degree in Aviation Planning, Architecture, Urban Planning or related field. • Professional certification such as Project Management Professional, American In-stitute of Certified Planners or Accredited Airport Executive. • Registration as a professional engineer or architect. • GIS experience and other graphics-based or visual media experience
