About Town Of Pinedale
Pinedale is located in western Wyoming, approximately 78 miles south of Jackson Hole and 135 miles southeast of Yellowstone National Park. We are in the heart of the Upper Green River Valley, surrounded by 3 mountain ranges which includes 2 designated wilderness areas. Approximately 80% of the county is public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U.S. Forest Service.
Pinedale proper sits at 7,175 feet elevation and has a population of 2,030. We are a relaxed, rural community, which serves as the recreational gateway to the Wind River Mountain Range, Bridger Wilderness area, and Gros Ventre Wilderness. We also are at the northern edge of one of the largest natural gas producing fields in Wyoming.
Pinedale is the county seat for Sublette County. The courthouse is located in the center of town. We have a town hall, medical clinic, county library, 2 weekly newspapers, a retirement center, a senior citizen’s center, a recycling center, and 5 parks. There is 1 elementary school, 1 middle school, and 1 high school. Recreational facilities include 2 developed and lighted softball fields, 1 Little League field and 1 soccer field, the Pinedale Aquatic Center, Rendezv...ous Meadows Golf Course (9-hole), Museum of the Mountain Man, Sublette County Ice Area, Wrangler Park (skateboard), White Pine Ski Area and several paved walking paths.
The Ralph Wenz Airport is a general aviation airport located approximately 6 miles south of Pinedale. The nearest commercial airport is 90 miles to the north, outside of Jackson Hole and Interstate Highway 80 bisects Rock Springs, 100 miles to the south.
We have one ‘main street’ through town called Pine Street, which is also Highway 191, that connects Rock Springs to Jackson Hole. The majority of the businesses are located along this street or within the first block of it. Pine Creek flows through the middle of town and comes from Fremont Lake, the town’s water supply, 4 miles to the northeast.
