The Roanoke Regional Airport Commission is seeking a Director of Planning & Engineering for the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport (ROA). This position is responsible for leading and managing the Department of Planning and Engineering, which includes, all airport facility planning functions, capital improvement program, environmental program/compliance, and sustainability initiatives; operations, and supervising the Operations Manager. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, planning, or a closely related field; a minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in engineering design, engineering project administration and inspection, construction management, or airport planning, and a minimum of three (3) years as a project manager for construction or planning projects at one or more commercial service airports.

Professional Registration as an Engineer or Planner is not required but is desired.
The successful candidate must meet and maintain Transportation Security Administration and Commission security requirements for unescorted access to the Airport’s Secured Area, SIDA and other Air Operations Areas; must possess or promptly obtain a valid Virginia driver’s license; must have and maintain an insurable driving record acceptable to the Commission’s insurance carrier(s).
Additional Salary Information: The salary range for this position is $83,932 - $120,655. A starting salary at the mid-point of $100,632 may be possible for the exceptional candidate. There is also an excellent benefit package including relocation assistance.

The Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport (ROA) is the primary commercial service airport serving all of western Virginia. The Airport’s service area encompasses a 19-county area (including portions of eastern West Virginia) with a total population of nearly 800,000. The regional affiliates of three major airlines, Delta, United, and US Airways, serve the Airport. ROA is also served by Allegiant. Activity at ROA exceeds 302,000 enplanements annually with 20 daily departures to six major hubs. ROA is also served by FedEx and UPS.
ROA is owned and operated by the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission, a fully independent governmental body created in 1987. The Commission is governed by five Commissioners, three of whom are appointed by the City of Roanoke and two by the County of Roanoke. The Commission has an operating budget of just over $8 million, employs approximately 605 employees, and contracts for ARFF services.
