To protect the general public from injury or property loss through fire fighting activities, first aid, aircraft rescue and fire fighting, hazardous materials and airport security. Performs general fire fighting work in combating, extinguishing and preventing fires; lays out and connects hose; holds nozzles and directs water streams; raises and climbs ladders. Operates various pieces of fire apparatus including pumps and aerial ladders; cleans and services assigned apparatus and maintains it in a condition of readiness; uses chemical extinguishers, bars, hooks and lines. Removes persons from dangers; administers first aid to injured persons; performs salvage operations such as placing salvage covers, sweeping water and removing debris. Participates in fire drills and attends classes in fire fighting, first aid and related subjects; inspects county buildings to insure observance of fire safety regulations. Minimum qualifications for lateral fire fighters are: Greater than two (2) years' experience working full-time as a career fire fighter and EMT at a fire department; IFSAC or ProBoard Fire fighter I, II and Hazardous Materials Operations; Current EMT certification in Washington state or National Registry; and Washington state Fire Recruit Academy or equivalent.
DEFINITIONS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Greater than two (2) years' experience working full-time as a career fire fighter and EMT at a fire department means that the candidate has more than two years of full-time employment as a professional fire fighter in a public, municipal or fire district fire department. The candidate must have successfully passed the probationary period in his/her department and currently be assigned to a fire fighting position on a regular shift schedule.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS ARFF experience; JATC Apprentice or Journeyman; EVIP; AA Degree
A valid State of Washington Driver's License is required for employment.
Must secure and maintain a valid Washington State Commercial Driver's License within three (3) months of employment. You will be a candidate for random drug and alcohol testing.
Candidates for employment must pass a Criminal Record Check (CHRD) as required by TSA.
Must maintain a valid EMT Certification.
A job offer will be conditioned on satisfactory results of a post-offer medical examination or inquiry.
After employment an annual physical is required.
