The Airports Division, part of the Real Estate Assets Department (READ), is responsible for operating two general aviation airports, Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport and Brown Field Airport, within the City of San Diego. Deputy Director is responsible for safe and efficient operation of two General Aviation airports in compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations, especially FAA Grant Assurances. In addition, the Deputy Director of Airports must manage the airports in a risk-adverse manner, demonstrate political acumen, within and outside the City organization, present high-level briefings to management and elected bodies, interpret complex concepts to upper management and the public, manage an enterprise fund budget, compose and present Reports to Council, oversee existing property and promote new development, maintain a responsive dialog with federal, State, and local agencies, manage personnel, create and submit to the FAA 5-Year Airport Capital Improvement Plans, apply, manage and closeout FAA Grants.
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Aviation Management, Public Administration, or a related field, and
A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible supervisory and/or management experience that demonstrates ability to work in a dynamic environment with a large and diverse workforce.
Progressively responsible experience managing in the field of airport management and/or other government services management is highly desirable;
A pilot's license and/or ratings and/or American Association of Airport Executives accreditation are also highly desirable.
Or any combination of education and experience that demonstrates these qualifications may be qualifying.
