About Oregon Department of Aviation
The Oregon Department of Aviation is a state agency providing services to Oregon’s aviation community. We are a 14 member service organization, and work with all 97 public use airports throughout Oregon. We own and operate 28 of them, all general aviation, ranging in size from small coastal recreational fields and Cascade Mountains emergency strips to a mid-sized reliever for the Portland area. Our work takes us all over Oregon, from the Painted Hills and stunning Wallowa Mountains of eastern Oregon, to the incomparable 363 mile (mostly) undeveloped Oregon coastline. If you like the outdoors, Oregon can’t be beat with its 255 state parks and 11 national forests. The Willamette Valley (where our office is located) gets around 2-3 inches of snow a year, and is home to world class universities and entertainment. Salem is about 45 miles south of Portland, with a population of 165,000, and is Oregon’s third largest city, as well as the state capital. So its’s just the right blend of big city amenities with a small town feel. If quality of life is a factor in your career decisions, Oregon may be a great next step.
