This is a 40-hour-per-week position, including weekends and holidays, with the occasional call-out and overtime. Starting salary is $38,000 to $42,000 subject to qualifications. The Virginia Tech/Montgomery Executive Airport is seeking an Operation Specialist to join our team for our rapidly growing General Aviation Airport. Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, the operations specialist II will perform a variety of supervisory, technical, general, maintenance, and surveillance duties associated with the safe, efficient, and continuous operation and maintenance of the airport. This position involves exercising sound judgment and the ability to work independently and cooperatively.
Responsibilities • Supervisor of operations staff, coordinates airport operations during assigned shift, ensuring the safety and security of the public, tenants and airport staff • Must have excellent customer service skills when handling customers both internal and external customers. • Coordinate and testing of fuel deliveries. • Conducts periodic and daily inspections of runways, taxiways, fuel farm and other airport facilities. • Performs other functions as requested by the Director of Operations.
Experience Requirements • Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in the aviation sector or related field preferred. Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • This position requires skills in leadership, prioritization, organization, verbal communications, interpersonal relations with co-workers and the public. • Ability to plan, organize, and set priorities. • Electrical and mechanical experience is highly preferable with the ability to check, lubricate, and maintain various types of electrical and mechanical equipment as well as troubleshoot system malfunctions and recognize problems and take quick corrective action in addressing potential hazards or existing discrepancies
