The salary range for this position is $58,656 - $74,298. A starting salary at the mid-point ($65,167) is achievable for the exceptional candidate. The Monroe County Airport offers an attractive benefits package and may assist with relocation costs.
The incumbent Asst Director is vacating the position in June 2023. Ideally, the new Asst Director will begin employment two months prior to cross-train with the incumbent.

The Assistant Director works closely with the Airport Director, Finance Manager and Operations Staff to accomplish the Airport’s goals and objectives. The candidate possesses well-developed skills in leveraging the operational knowledge of key team members to ensure the Airport is safe, clean, efficient, and always in a serviceable condition. The Assistant Director is responsible for the day-to-day activities of Operations personnel and contractors. They direct the Airport’s FAA compliance requirement activities and the annual FAA 139 inspection process. An essential part of the Assistant Director’s position is assisting Airport staff during emergencies, including aircraft or vehicle accidents, inclement weather conditions, fuel spills, etc. BMG is a Regional GA Airport in Bloomington, Indiana, home to Indiana University. BMG covers 1,350 acres, two runways and can accommodate aircraft up to C-17s. The Milken Institute featured Bloomington on its 2022 Best-Performing Small Cities Index. Bloomington’s economy incorporates defense, aerospace, high-tech, and pharmaceutical industries.
The Ideal candidate will be a proven leader eager to broaden their operational skill set at a regional General Aviation Airport that operates under FAA Part 139. A 4-year degree in Aviation Management or a related area of study and three years of experience in airport operations or an equivalent combination of experience and training at an FAA Part 139-certified airport is required. At least two years of leadership experience is desired. Excellent written and oral communication skills are also expected. The Ideal candidate will have experience interacting with government agencies such as the FAA, TSA, and state DOT. The candidate will have experience interacting with stakeholders and the community, especially on sensitive issues such as airport noise. They will also have experience in wildlife management, including assessments, inspections, and training. The candidate must know FAA regulations, FAA Advisory Circular series 150, OSHA workplace safety regulations, and rules. They must know of or be able to learn local and State building and fire safety codes, including IFSTA and NFPA. They must be able to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals. The candidate must be able to work in various weather conditions, including sweltering and humid conditions, either during the day or at night.
