The City of Renton Public Works Department is seeking a qualified individual to join our team as the Airport Director for the Renton Airport. The Renton Airport is located at the southern end of Lake Washington in the Seattle area, and one of the few facilities that has both a paved runway as well as a seaplane ramp. In addition to having general aviation uses, the facility also has designated manufacturing space at the airport due to the immediate adjacency of Boeing Company ‘s 737 Manufacturing Plant which utilize the airport as the departure point for every new Boeing 737 aircraft produced. Under general direction of the Public Works Administrator, the selected individual will be responsible to manage, direct, and coordinate the activities, operations, and maintenance at the Renton Airport.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ensure the City of Renton Airport operations and services are delivered in a manner that achieves the City’s business plan and goals and delivers outcomes important to the community.
Enforce airport regulations and ensure compliance with a variety of City, State and federal laws and statutes related to airport operations; communicate with government and regulatory agencies to coordinate activities, resolve issues and exchange information.
Recommend changes to City Code regarding airport regulations; recommend policy and administrative action as appropriate.
Communicate with other City departments, airport tenants and external organizations regarding airport maintenance, development, operations, security, zoning, utilities, publicity and public relations.
Promote airport use and development; determine land and building use; negotiate airport leases, contracts and agreements with existing and prospective tenants.
Plan, organize, and direct continuing public relations programs.
Formulate, coordinate and implement airport projects and programs.
Oversee the hiring process within the division, ensuring hiring managers recruit and retain qualified staff.
Ensure managers consistently utilize performance management techniques, recognize staff and discipline as needed.
Develop and monitor short and long-range business plans, goals, and performance measures of the division and department.
Serve as a liaison to the Mayor’s executive leadership team, reporting on the status of current projects, identifying issues, and assessing their impact, and proactively implementing and recommending solutions.
Provide technical and policy information to the public, city council and other stakeholders.
Resolve internal and external complaints, while maintaining positive relations.
Develop the annual budget and financial reports for the division; make recommendations for budget adjustments.
Develop and administer City policies.
Create an environment of teamwork and respect.
Foster a culture of equity and inclusion by welcoming and meeting the diverse needs and perspectives of groups and individuals.
Remain current with relevant technological advancements as it relates to field.
Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
May be assigned to support City priorities during emergencies.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Airport Management, Public or Business Administration or related field.
Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in the management and /or operations of an airport facility.
Or minimum 12 years of relevant education and experience.
3 years supervisory experience.
Valid Driver’s License.
Successful passing of a required driving record check.
Successful passing of a required background check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Drive and perform fieldwork.
Constantly operate a computer and other office equipment.
Frequent communication with City employees and customers.
Move items weighing up to 20 pounds on occasion.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a typical office environment and involves moving throughout the airport and grounds.
Work evening and/or weekend hours as needed/
Night meetings may be required.
Noise level indoors is moderately quiet.
Noise level in the field is extremely loud.
