The Airport Planning Director is responsible for the guidance and development of the capital program to ensure its alignment with the Airport’s short-, medium-, and long-term goals while balancing the external influences of tenant stakeholders and City, State, County, and Federal programs. This includes the oversight and management of airfield and terminal planning, programmatic controls of capital programs, environmental programs, and design of vertical projects. Work involves leading the management of planning, environmental, and architectural staff and consultants to support and ensure compliance of the development of airport facilities, projects, and programs. Work involves supporting the teams for the preparation of designs, plans, and specifications, technical reports, and applications. Work involves major technical decision-making and independent judgment within established guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree plus five years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree plus seven years of experience required.  Major coursework should have included an aviation-related field, business or public administration, engineering, architecture, or closely related field. Experience needed in project management, contract preparation, project design, and planning, preferably at an airport.  American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) Certified Member (CM) designation required or expected to be completed within the first year of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:  

Preferred certifications listed by preference: American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) Accredited Airport Executive (AAE) preferred; American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Project Management Professional (PMP), Professional licensure of Architect or Engineer, AAAE Airport Certified Employee (category of Planning, Environmental, Finance, Operations, etc.).
