ABOUT THIS POSITION
The City of Phoenix Aviation Department (Aviation) is seeking a forward-thinking and results-oriented sustainability professional with proven leadership and collaboration skills to serve as the Sustainability Superintendent. This position reports to the Sustainability Program Administrator and will supervise professional staff.
Aviation has a long-standing commitment to sustainability and livability for the Phoenix metro area and is committed to strengthening sustainability throughout the airport system (Phoenix Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports). Aviation is actively pursuing several sustainability goals including 100% Renewable Energy by 2030, Net Zero Carbon by 2040, Zero Waste by 2050, and 2% Water Reduction annually. To reach those goals and effectively incorporate sustainability into airport operation, management, and administrative processes, a Sustainability Management Plan and a dedicated Sustainability Section within the Facilities & Services Division have been established.
Responsibilities include and are not limited to:
Administer and direct implementation and documentation of the Sustainability Program, strategy, policy, and procedures.
Identify and communicate strategic opportunities, sustainable business practices, priorities, and risks.
Establish, monitor, manage, and report on relevant KPIs.
Effectively communicate Aviation’s Sustainability plan and initiatives to division management and other stakeholders.
Professional services contract management including scope development and performance oversight.
Support and engage in CIP Planning and Operating Budget development to ensure funding for sustainability programs and initiatives.

Knowledge of environmental laws: RCRA, NEPA, CAA, CWA, EPCRA, and the AZ equivalents.
SALARY
$74,630.40 - $113,588.80 annually. Candidates may be hired up to $113,588.80 depending upon qualifications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
SEP, LEED AP, CSDP, CCP, or other certification applicable to sustainability.
Experience with:
Leading research, analysis, development and implementation of sustainability strategies and initiatives.
Monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on effectiveness of sustainability programs and initiatives.
Applying sustainability practices in the aviation industry.
Leadership working with multiple stakeholders to implement sustainability policy, processes, or technologies.
Contract management including scope development and performance oversight.
