Help lead the airport that keeps Alaska’s capital city connected.
Take the next step in your career and help guide the future of Juneau International Airport.
Juneau International Airport is seeking a Deputy Airport Manager to help lead a complex public-use airport that serves Alaska’s capital city and operates as an enterprise fund of the City and Borough of Juneau. JNU provides critical passenger, cargo, general aviation, and public service connectivity for Juneau and Southeast Alaska, and functions in a dynamic, highly regulated environment shaped by weather, geography, and year-round operational demands.
This is a senior leadership role for someone who can work across operations, maintenance, administration, tenants, contractors, and agency partners to support safe, reliable, and effective airport service.
The position offers the opportunity to make a visible impact on airport operations, organizational performance, and the continued success of a vital community asset.
What You Will Be Doing
As Deputy Airport Manager, you will work closely with the Airport Manager to support the daily administration and operation of Juneau International Airport. Your responsibilities will span airport operations and maintenance, safety, regulatory compliance, procurement, and coordination of administrative and capital improvement activities. You will help implement airport policies and operational priorities, support organizational goals, and contribute to the effective day-to-day management of a complex public-use airport.
The work is varied and may include resolving operational issues, advancing procurements and contracts, preparing recommendations and reports for leadership or the Airport Board, supporting regulatory and administrative processes, and helping move key airport initiatives forward. You will regularly work across functional lines and with multiple stakeholders, including airport staff, tenants, airlines, contractors, public safety partners, regulatory agencies, elected officials, and members of the public.
This role requires sound judgment, initiative, adaptability, and strong communication skills. Success in the position depends on your ability to manage competing priorities, build productive working relationships, and represent the Airport in a professional and solutions-oriented manner. In the absence of the Airport Manager, this position assumes the duties and responsibilities of that office and helps ensure continuity of airport leadership and operations.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, business administration, public administration, transportation, facilities management, emergency management, or a related field, and five years of progressively responsible management or administrative experience in an airport, aviation, public-sector, transportation, facilities, or similarly regulated operating environment. Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience at a Part 139 certificated airport; familiarity with FAA regulatory requirements and airport operating standards; experience overseeing or coordinating operations, maintenance, safety, procurement, and administrative functions; experience with public-sector procurement and contract administration; experience working with airport tenants, airlines, public boards, and agency stakeholders. AAAE certifications preferred, but not required.
